Compacts in Negotiations
In 2005-2009 the Commission is focusing on negotiating compacts with the Blackfeet Tribe, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge in the hopes that these settlements will be ready to submit to the legislature by 2007. By 2009 the Commission hopes to have completed compacts with the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation and the Charles M. Russell/UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge. In addition, the Commission and staff are working on federal legislation for the Fort Belknap (2001) and Crow Tribe (1999) compacts, which they hope to submit to the 2006 Congressional session.
