Department of Defense Firefighter Program
In 2007 MT DNRC Division of Forestry was authorized to administer, and participate in the Department of Defense (DoD) Fire Fighter Program (FFP). The FFP program allows the State, County and Emergency Fire Service Organizations to acquire federal property, to which the title of this federal property is transferred to the receiving agency. The FFP program allows State, County and Emergency Fire Service Organizations to offset the large cost of fire protection, by acquiring vehicles and equipment at a minimal cost compared to the cost of purchasing new or comparable used equipment and vehicles. From February of 2007 to the present the State of Montana, and County and Emergency Fire Service Organizations have acquired equipment valued at over $4.8 million (federal acquisition cost) for use in supporting their fire programs.
