Identification of forest insects and diseases
The Forest Pest Management Program offers resources to aid in the identification of forest insects and diseases. The field guide is a useful place to begin diagnostics. If you are fairly sure of the pest, you can verify your identification and find more information under “Common forest insects of Montana” on the main page or by referring to the appropriate Forest Insect and Disease Leaflet.
Service foresters (link to service forester map) can also help in identifying forest pests. Home and garden pests should be referred to your local extension agent or submitted to the Schutter Diagnostic Lab.
