The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities. We now have 42 Tree Cities in Montana! Anaconda, Big Timber, Billings, Bozeman, Broadus, Butte-Silver Bow, Choteau, Colstrip, Columbia Falls, Cut Bank, Dillon Drummond, Eureka, Forsyth, Fort Benton, Glendive, Great Falls, Hamilton, Harlowton, Havre, Helena, Kalispell, Laurel, Libby, Livingston, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Manhattan, Missoula, Polson, Red Lodge, Ronan, Roundup, Shelby, Sheridan, Sidney, Stanford, Townsend, Valier, White Sulphur Springs, Whitefish, Whitehall and Wolf Point. |

Participation Requirements
There are four standards that a community must meet in order to achieve the Tree City USA designation. They include:
- Establish a tree board or department
- Write a Tree Care Ordinance
- Commit at least $2 per capita annually to your community forestry program
- Celebrate Arbor Day

Growth Awards

The Tree City USA Growth Award is provided by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America. This award recognizes achievement and communicates new ideas and helps leaders of all Tree City USA communities to plan for improving community tree care. There are now 534 Growth Award recipients. Montana currently has 7 Growth Award communities, including: Colstrip, Fort Benton, Kalispell, Polson, Shelby, Sidney, and Townsend. |
