Target Community Biomass Project Planning Grants
Eligible Applicants: private businesses, public entities, state and local governments, institutions, tribal and non-profit entities.
Eligible Areas: within 50 air mile radius of one of the Target Communities of Butte, Bozeman and Superior. The biomass user or processing facility must be located within the general vicinity (i.e. 50 air miles) of one of the Target Communities, or the source of biomass material for the project must come from forest treatments within the general vicinity of one of the Target Communities.
Eligible Activities: feasibility study, planning, design or permitting of small-diameter wood/woody biomass utilization projects.
Award Available: Ranges $9,000-$10,000

Eligible Areas: statewide
Eligible Activities: purchase of equipment, construction costs; pre-construction costs such as planning, design and permitting work associated with woody biomass utilization projects; and technical and economic feasibility studies.
Award Available: $55,000 anticipated

Biomass Energy Preliminary Feasibility Assessment Grants
Eligible Applicants: public schools and institutions, non-profit and tribal facilities
Eligible Areas: see map in application details
Eligible Activities: hire firm to conduct pre-feasibility assessment for integrating a wood biomass energy system
Award Available: full cost of assessment, not to exceed $3,500
Submission Deadline: June 7, 2012. Applications approved on a rolling first-come, first-served basis.

Biomass Fuel Purchase Grants for First-Year Energy Projects
Eligible Applicants: public schools and institutions, non-profit and tribal facilities
Eligible Areas: see map in application details
Eligible Activities: purchase of woody biomass fuel for first year of operation of biomass energy system.
Aware Available: grant award equivalent to estimated annual cost of wood biomass fuel. A total of $60,000 is available for grant funding.
Submission Deadline: May 4, 2012. Applications approved on a rolling, first come-first served basis.

Carbon Offsets for Wood Biomass Energy Projects
Eligible Applicants: public/non-profit facilities
Eligible Activities: facilities installing a woody biomass energy system may be eligible to sell their carbon offsets to assist in funding their project via an agreement between the DNRC and The Climate Trust.
Funding Available: The Climate Trust is currently paying $9.00/metric ton of CO2 offsets generated by displacing fossil fuel with biomass heating system for 12-year term.
